Two for one: Council unveils free parking plan to entice shoppers back into Waterford city

Shoppers visiting Waterford will get a free hour’s parking as part of new measures to help the city recover from the pandemic.
Details of the new ‘Pay 1st Hour, 2nd Hour Free’ parking incentive were unveiled by Waterford City and County Council yesterday.
A council spokesperson said the initiative is aimed at encouraging increased footfall in the city-centre and is supported by all parking providers for on street and all pay and display car parks. It will come into effect from this Thursday and will be available throughout June and July.
The local authority said usual parking enforcement will apply and all machines “will be calibrated to issue a two-hour ticket when an hour is requested”.
