Masked heroes: How Waterford company is helping to combat Covid-19
An innovative Waterford company has redeployed its resources to help the national fight to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
Azzuri Sport has responded to the shortage of face masks by developing its own washable, reusable protective masks to supply our embattled heath workers on the frontline of the battle against Covid-19.
They are supplying the masks to nursing homes and healthcare organisations in Waterford and throughout the South East. And although supply is limited due to the huge demand, they have urged any organisation who requires the masks to get in touch with them.
The Kilcohen-based sports factory shop said: “Our industrial side have over 30 years experience producing personal protective clothing for emergency services.
“We have re-adapted a certified high performance material for use in a face mask to prevent virus droplets entering the nose and mouth. This is a re-usable protective face mask solution where there is a shortage of supply of certified respiratory masks.”
The company is producing an initial batch of 5,000 masks which they will provide free of charge to local and regional nursing homes.
They said that after this batch is completed, if there is still a need, they will “gear up production further” and offer the masks at “the lowest price possible” just to cover the material costs.
