Major retail blow for Waterford as one of city’s best known stores closes after 27 years

Waterford has suffered another major retail blow after one of the city’s best-known menswear stores announced it is shutting its doors with immediate effect.

After three decades of trading in the city, Gregory’s Clothes for Men on Patrick Street said it could no longer remain open as a result of an “insurmountable downturn in business”.

In a statement posted on social media last night, the store said: “It is with great regret that after 27 years, due to an insurmountable downturn in business, we must annouce that Gregory’s Clothes for Men will cease trading as of today February 3rd 2020.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support over the years and wish you all well in the future.”

The owners also told customers that “any outstanding vouchers” they have for Gregory’s can be redeemed at Fitzgerald’s Menswear. Heroes, Evolution and FitzU up until March 31.

Many of the popular store’s loyal customers took to social media last night to express their dismay at the news and to wish the owners Greg and Lisa well in the future.
