One more person has died after contracting the coronavirus as 825 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.

The overall death toll as a result of the virus now stands at 1,827. There are now 43,531 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

The breakdown of the latest cases is as follows: 254 are in Dublin, 147 in Cork, 39 in Cavan, 38 in Donegal, 37 in Kildare with the remaining 310 cases are spread across 20 other counties.

The vast majority (18,249) of new people claiming the pandemic payment work in the accommodation and food service sector. A total of 69,535 workers in this sector are currently receiving the pandemic payment.

The total number of people receiving the benefit now stands at 228,858, the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection confirmed.

Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys said more than €61 million would be paid out in pandemic unemployment payments this week alone.
