Fit for purpose: iconic Waterford Crystal Sports Centre up for sale for €1.5m
The Waterford City Crystal Sports and Leisure Centre complex has been put on the market with a guide price of €1.5 million.
Waterford couple Pat and Jean Rockett, who are both fitness and kick-boxing instructors, bought the complex out of receivership in 2013.
The well-known Cork Road venue includes a 25m pool, two gyms, spinning room, bar, cafe, function hall, sauna, steam room and toddler pool.
The large leisure complex was originally developed for workers and their families at Waterford Crystal, which employed 3,900 in the city at the time.
The centre will attract a lot of interest in the health and fitness sector. Local estate agent John Rohan described it as “one of Waterford’s best known and longest established leisure developments”.
The complex spans about 27,000 sq ft of building, with parking and it’s close to Waterford Industrial Estate, where major employers include Cartamundi, Teva Pharmaceuticals, Bausch & Lomb, Honeywell, and Nypro Healthcare.
It is also just 200 metres from Waterford Institute of Technology, which does not have its own swimming pool facilities.
