Anger over Fáilte Ireland ‘snub’ to Waterford in new advertising campaign

A local TD has hit out at Fáilte Ireland for failing to promote Waterford in a new advertising campaign.
A feature promoting Ireland’s Ancient East appeared in a national newspaper yesterday, but it failed to mention Ireland’s old city in its list of attractions.
Independent TD Matt Shanahan (pictured below) posted a photograph of the-page spread that promoted Wicklow, Wexford and Kilkenny in yesterday’s Sunday Independent on social media, adding: “Fáilte Ireland marketing needs to shape up and cop themselves on!”
Deputy Shanahan wrote on social media: “2 page tourism spread in Sunday Independent nad not a mention of oldest heritage city in the country and south east region. Continued ball dropping by those tasked to market South East.”
Several people voiced their support for Deputy Shanahan and joined in criticism of Fáilte Ireland.
However, Fáilte Ireland has promoted Waterford in different elements in the same ‘Make a Break for Ireland’s Ancient East’ campaign. Wateford attractions – including House of Waterford Crystal, Mount Congreve Gardens and the Viking Triangle – did feature in another two-page spread that appeared in The Irish Times on Saturday.
