Hardware retailer to open new store in Waterford

Hardware retailer Screwfix has confirmed plans to open a new store in Waterford city.

The Waterford outlet is set to open at the end of this month.

Two stores have already opened in Dublin, in Sandyford and Swords. A fourth outlet will open in Ennis, Co Clare early next year.

These four stores are part of 40 outlets the company, which is part of the Kingfisher Plc group, is planning to open across the country in 2020, creating up to 400 new jobs. The new roles will be in a variety of areas, including service assistants, supervisors and retail management.

Screwfix also more than 1,300 shops in nine countries around the world, including in Russia, Turkey and the UK where it has 650 outlets.

In a statement, Screwfix chief executive John Mewett said the opening of stores in Ireland represents a major milestone for the company.

“We’re excited about the times ahead and look forward to welcoming customers to our new stores,” he said.

The Irish stores will stock more than 10,000 products and will be open every day.
